Hafiz Ibrahim is a Bangladeshi politician. He served as a member of parliament from Bhola-2 constituency during 2001–2006. He was a BNP central committee member. He served as a director of state-owned Rupali Bank. Career From 1994 to 2003, Ibrahim served as the director of Rupali Bank Limited. He was re-elected to board in 2003 despite Bangladesh Bank seeking an explanation why a director had served more than 6 years in a row at the bank against its rules. Rupali Bank was of the opinion as a state owned Bank that rule did not apply to them. Bangladesh Bank removed him in 2005. Tofail Ahmed (born 22 October 1943) is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a 7-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-1, Bhola-2 and Bakerganj-1 constituencies since 1973. Previously he served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh. Background Ahmed was born on 22 October 1943 in Bhola in the then Bengal Presidency, British India. Ahmed joined the Awami League and in support of the 1966 Six point movement of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. was involved in the 1969 mass uprising in East Pakistan as a student leader. Bhola District ( bn, ভোলা) is an administrative district (''zila'') in south-central Bangladesh, which includes Bhola Island, the largest island of Bangladesh. It is located in the Barisal Division and has an area of 3403.48 km2. It is bounded by Lakshmipur and Barisal District to the north, the Bay of Bengal to the south, by Lakshmipur and Noakhali districts, the (lower) Meghna river and Shahbazpur Channel to the east, and by Patuakhali District and the Tetulia river to the west. Burhanuddin Upazila
Borhanuddin ( bn, বোরহানউদ্দিন) is an upazila (or sub-district) of Bhola District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh. History In the eighteenth century, Agha Baqer Khan held numerous jagirs across South Bengal including the area now known as Borhanuddin. During his time, he gifted two rent-free islands in the east and west of present-day Borhanuddin to an Arab family which had arrived in the region. The chief of the family was an Islamic preacher who became renowned among the locals by the name Syed Auliya. The Sufi heritage of Borhanuddin can be recognised through the mazars of many faqirs there such as that of Rahman Faqir in Gunaighar, Kawthar Dawlat Shah Faqir in Mashakira and Muin ad-Din Faqir in Ponra. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300. The main rival four-party alliance received only 32 seats, with the remaining four going to independent candidates. 2001 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 1 October 2001. The 300 single-seat constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad were contested by 1,935 candidates representing 54 parties and including 484 independents. The elections were the second to be held under the caretaker government concept, introduced in 1996.
