Bhimphedi
Bhimphedi ( ne, भीमफेदी), is a village located in the Bhimphedi Rural Municipality of Makwanpur District of Bagmati Province of Nepal. This village is known for its bazaar (marketplace). Bismuth ore is mined here. Etymology The word "Bhimphedi" comes from the Sanskrit name ''Bhīma'' (one of the Pāṇḍava brothers mentioned in the ''Mahabharata'') and the Nepali word ''phedi'' which means the base of a hill. According to local beliefs, Bhīma and his brothers stayed in the forests near here during their time in exile, so the place was called Bhimphedi. History Before the construction of highways, goods from India were taken to the Kathmandu Valley through here. The first motor vehicles in Nepal were physically carried by teams of men through this village. Bhimphedi Rural Municipality
Bhimphedi is a Rural municipality located within the Makawanpur District of the Bagmati Province of Nepal. The rural municipality spans of area, with a total population of 23,344 according to a 2011 Nepal census. On March 10, 2017, the Government of Nepal restructured the local level bodies into 753 new local level structures. The previous Bhimphedi, Bhainse, Nibuwatar, Kogate, Ipa Panchakanya and portion of Namtar VDCs were merged to form Bhimphedi Rural Municipality. Bhimphedi is divided into 9 wards, with Bhimphedi VDC declared the administrative center of the rural municipality. Demographics At the time of the 2011 Nepal census, Bhimphedi Rural Municipality had a population of 24,960. Of these, 55.4% spoke Tamang, 39.8% Nepali, 1.6% Newar, 1.3% Chepang, 0.7% Magar, 0.6% Maithili, 0.2% Bhojpuri, 0.1% Rai, 0.1% Tharu and 0.1% other languages as their first language. Hetauda
Hetauda ( ne, हेटौडा, ) is a sub-metropolitan city in the Makwanpur District of Bagmati Province in central Nepal. It is the administrative headquarters of the Makwanpur District and the capital of Bagmati Province as declared by majority (105 out of 110) Provincial Assembly Members on 12 January 2020. It is one of the largest cities of Nepal. At the time of the 2015 Nepal census, it had a population of 153,875 people. The city had a population of 195,951 in 2021. Hetauda sub-metropolitan city is situated in the confluence of the two prominent national highways viz. Tribhuvan highway and Mahendra highway. It was declared a municipality in 1969 A.D (2026 B.S), but development was sluggish. Momentum increased when the city became headquarters of the Makwanpur district in 1982A.D (2039 B.S). Churia Tunnel
The Churia Tunnel ( ne, चुरिया सुरुङ्ग) is a -long highway tunnel carved through the churia hill between Makwanpur and Bara of Nepal. It was constructed connecting the country's first motorable road between Amlekhganj in the terai and Bhimphedi settlement of Makwanpur, the point of entry into Kathmandu which served as a dry port, in the trade route between Kathmandu and Raxaul. It was the country's first highway tunnel. Constructed in 1917 to reduce the travel time between the Indian border and Bhimphedi it has since fallen into disrepair. The entrance lies at the premises of the Churia (Churiya) Temple off Mahendra Highway in the outskirts of Hetauda, and efforts are ongoing to conserve the remaining structure.
