Bhaṭṭotpala
Utpala or (') is the name of a 10th-century Indian commentator of Vārāha Mihira's ''Brihat Samhitā''. ''Brihat Samhitā'' is a Samhitā text of (Indian astrology and astronomy) . Samhitā is one of three branches of (Samhitā has many other meanings outside ). He is known for quoting six verses from ''Surya Siddhanta'' which are not found in its extant version. These six verses can be found in the 'Introduction' by S.Jain to the translation of Surya Siddhānta made by E. Burgess. He is also the author of a commentary on Brahmagupta's ' (7th century). In this, he is a successor of Prthudaka and a predecessor of Amaraja. Bhattotpala is a commentator of the treatises Brihatjataka and Brihat Samhita of Varahamihira. David Pingree
David Edwin Pingree (January 2, 1933, New Haven, Connecticut – November 11, 2005, Providence, Rhode Island) was an American historian of mathematics in the ancient world. He was a University Professor and Professor of History of Mathematics and Classics at Brown University. Life Pingree graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts in 1950. He studied at Harvard University, where he earned his doctorate in 1960 with a dissertation on the supposed transmission of Hellenistic astrology to India. His dissertation was supervised by Daniel Henry Holmes Ingalls, Sr. and Otto Eduard Neugebauer. After completing his PhD, Pingree remained at Harvard three more years as a member of its Society of Fellows before moving to the University of Chicago to accept the position of Research Associate at the Oriental Institute. Dwijendra Narayan Jha
Dwijendra Narayan Jha (19404 February 2021) was an Indian historian who studied and wrote on ancient and medieval India He was a professor of history at Delhi University and a member of the Indian Council of Historical Research. Some of his books include ''Ancient India: In Historical Outline'' (1997), ''The Myth of the Holy Cow'' (2001), and ''Early India: A Concise History'' (2004).
