Beverly Wendland
Beverly Wendland is the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis. Her laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms and regulation of Endocytosis, endocytic vesicle formation, using cell biology, genetic, and structural biology approaches. Wendland's research has successfully taken advantage of the highly genetically tractable eukaryote, the yeast ''Saccharomyces cerevisiae''. Her research in yeast has advanced the molecular understanding of the cell biology underlying human cancer, cardiovascular disease, Lysosomal storage disorders, lysosomal-storage disorders and infections. Education and early career Wendland earned her B.S. at the University of California, San Diego, in 1986 and her Ph.D. in neuroscience with Richard Scheller at Stanford University in 1993. A provost is a senior academic administrator. At many institutions of higher education, the provost is the chief academic officer, a role that may be combined with being deputy to the chief executive officer. In some institutions, they may be the chief executive officer of a university, of a branch campus of a university, or of a college within a university. Basil O'Connor
Daniel Basil O'Connor (January 8, 1892 – March 9, 1972) was an American lawyer and nonprofit executive. In cooperation with U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt he started two foundations for the rehabilitation of polio patients and the research on polio prevention and treatment. From 1944 to 1949 he was chairman and president of the American Red Cross and from 1945 to 1950 he was chairman of the League of Red Cross Societies. Biography Early life Daniel Basil O'Connor was born January 8, 1892, in Taunton, Massachusetts. His father was a tinsmith. O'Connor grew up poor but scrappy — an "Irishman one generation removed from servitude", as he described himself.
