''Beverly Hills Cop'' is a video game developed by Tynesoft and published in 1990. The story is loosely based on the 1984 film ''Beverly Hills Cop''. The player controls Axel Foley in four distinct sub-games: a side-scrolling action game, a driving game, an overhead view shooter, and a first person shooter. The game was released on Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Amstrad CPC, Amiga, Atari ST, and MS-DOS. The BBC version only contains the driving game. Reception The reviewers of ''Zzap!64'' thought the Commodore 64 version was not particularly well executed with "passable" graphics and sound, but provided "a lot of variety" making it "quite good value for money". The overall rating given was 68%. The game was also reviewed in the magazine ''The Games Machine''. Tynesoft Computer Software was a software developer and publisher in the 1980s and early 1990s. History The company was originally set up in 1983 to release educational software but soon moved into the video games market on which it concentrated for most of its time. It developed numerous games for a wide variety of 8-bit micros, particularly those less well catered for by other publishers such as the Commodore 16, BBC Micro and Atari 8-bit. They also had a budget label, Micro Value, that issued compilations, reissues and some original games. ''Beverly Hills Cop'' is a film franchise of American action comedy films and an unaired television pilot based on characters created by Daniel Petrie, Jr. and Danilo Bach. The films star Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop who travels to Beverly Hills, California to investigate a crime, even though it is out of his jurisdiction. There, he meets Detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), Sergeant John Taggart ( John Ashton), and Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox). Ashton and Cox do not appear in ''Beverly Hills Cop III''.
