Bev Plocki
Beverly "Bev" Jean Plocki (born Beverly Jean Fry; September 6, 1964) is an American gymnastics coach, and the current coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team. In 32 years as the head coach at Michigan, her teams have a record of 830–263–4 and have won 25 Big Ten Conference championships, and advanced to 25 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, including 16 straight NCAA championship tournaments from 1993 to 2008. Plocki led her team to the NCAA Championship in 2021, the first championship won by a Big Ten Conference team. Biography Plocki was an All-American gymnast on the balance beam at the University of Alabama. She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University while studying for a master's degree. Plocki applied for an open coaching spot at the University of Michigan at age 23 and got the job. Michigan Wolverines Women's Gymnastics
The Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team represents the University of Michigan and competes in the Big Ten Conference. Under head coach Bev Plocki, the team has won 25 Big Ten championships and advanced to 25 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, including sixteen consecutive appearances from 1993 to 2008. In 2021, the Wolverines won the program's first-ever team national title. History The Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team was formed in 1976. In its 42-year history, the team has had six coaches. Newt Loken, head of the men's gymnastics team from 1948 to 1983, was hired to be the first women's coach and served one season. Anne Cornell and Scott Ponto both served short tenures before Sheri Hyatt for five seasons starting in 1980. Elise Ray
Mary Elise Ray (born February 6, 1982) is an American gymnast who represented the United States at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the 1999 World Championships. She was the head gymnastics coach at the University of Washington from 2016 to 2020. Biography and early career Ray attended Steven's Forest Elementary School and Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, Maryland and went on to train at Hill's Angels club in Maryland under Kelli Hill, coach of Olympic medalists Dominique Dawes and Courtney Kupets. She earned her first US national team berth as a junior in 1996 and turned in a strong performance in her international debut, the 1996 Junior Pan American Championships, placing second in the all-around and winning gold on the uneven bars and floor exercise. The 2021 Michigan Wolverines women's gymnastics team represented the University of Michigan in the 2021 NCAA Division I women's gymnastics season as members of the Big Ten Conference in their 46th season of collegiate competition. The Wolverines were led by head coach Bev Plocki in her thirty-second season, and played their home meets at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
