Betty Petryna
Betty Petryna or Doreen Allen (November 26, 1930 – September 4, 2020) played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She both threw and batted right-handed. Professional baseball career Betty was described as "a rock-solid player at third base." She had never even played that position, but was told by the teacher in the first game that she had to play in third base. After that she said she wanted second as it was a closer throw but was told she had to be third as she was 'good and could throw the ball to first." She played for both the Fort Wayne Daisies (1949), Grand Rapids Chicks (1948). In her first year she earned $75 a week and in her second, $125. Betty also got an AAGPBL all-time record of 12 assists in one game. She made a solid contribution to her team in its 1948 win of the Eastern Division Championship. All-American Girls Professional Baseball League
The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women's baseball league founded by Philip K. Wrigley which existed from 1943 to 1954. The AAGPBL is the forerunner of women's professional league sports in the United States. Over 600 women played in the league, which consisted of eventually 10 teams located in the American Midwest. In 1948, league attendance peaked at over 900,000 spectators. The most successful team, the Rockford Peaches, won a league-best four championships. The 1992 film ''A League of Their Own'' is a mostly fictionalized account of the early days of the league and its stars. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Fort Wayne Daisies
The Fort Wayne Daisies were a women's professional baseball team based in Fort Wayne, Indiana that played from through as members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. History The Daisies represented Fort Wayne, Indiana, and their home games were played at North Side High School (1945–1946) and Memorial Park (1946–1954). Daisy uniforms often changed from one season to the next, away uniforms having been yellow, pink, and brown during various years. Early Daisy uniforms featured a circular emblem of the Fort Wayne city seal in the center of the chest. This was replaced in later years with a patch reading "DAISIES". In the final years of the league, the Daisy uniform changed to a center seam running down the middle of the dress with an F and W on the front.
