Better Than You (Metallica Song)
"Better than You" is a song by American heavy metal band Metallica. It is the fifth track on their seventh album, '' Reload''. The song was originally titled "Better". It won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, the band's fourth award in that category. The song is about someone who is obsessed of the struggle to be better than someone else. The band performed a jam of the song for the first time in London in 1995. The single cover features the same picture as the cover of Metallica's '' Cunning Stunts'' as well as on the final page of ''Reload''. The 2011 book ''Metallica: The Music and the Mayhem'' describes the song as " ualifyingon all grounds, with lyrics full of festering resentment, and Hammett giving a lengthy solo." The Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance is an award presented at the Grammy Awards to recording artists for works (songs or albums) containing quality performances in the heavy metal music genre. The Grammy Awards is an annual ceremony, where honors in several categories are presented by The Recording Academy of the United States to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position". The ceremony was established in 1958 and originally called the Gramophone Awards. Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is an American musician who was the bassist of heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. He first performed with thrash metal band Flotsam and Jetsam from 1981 to 1986 before joining Metallica to succeed the deceased Cliff Burton. Newsted performed on the albums '' ...And Justice for All'' (1988), '' Metallica'' (1991), '' Load'' (1996), and '' Reload'' (1997), the most album appearances among Metallica's bassists. After leaving Metallica, Newsted was a member of metal bands Echobrain and Voivod, using the pseudonym Jasonic for the latter, and toured with Ozzy Osbourne. Kirk Lee Hammett (born November 18, 1962) is an American musician who has been the lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter for heavy metal band Metallica since 1983. Before joining Metallica, he formed and named the band Exodus. In 2003, Hammett was ranked 11th on ''Rolling Stone'''s list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. In 2009, Hammett was ranked number 15 in Joel McIver's book ''The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists''. Cunning Stunts (video)
''Cunning Stunts'' is a live album by heavy metal band Metallica. It was released in 1998 on DVD and VHS formats. The DVD features concert footage, band interviews, a documentary, behind the scenes footage, and a photo gallery consisting of approximately 1,000 photos taken by Anton Corbijn. Some of which were used in the album sleeves for '' Reload''. Three of the performances feature multiple angles. During the performance of the song "Enter Sandman", the entire stage is set to appear to collapse and explode, with pyrotechnics and a technician (referred to in the extras as the "Burning Dude") who runs across the stage while on fire, as another technician swings overhead. This is also one of the few Metallica concerts that did not feature " The Ecstasy of Gold" as an intro. The title is a spoonerism of the words ''stunning cunts''.
