Betsy Bartlett
Beatrice S. Bartlett or Betsy Bartlett (born 1928) is an American historian of modern Chinese history, from the 1600s to the present. She is Professor Emeritus of History at Yale University. Biography Bartlett received her B.A. from Smith College and Ph.D. (1980) from Yale University. She is best known for her work on ''Monarchs and Ministers: The Grand Council in Mid-Ch'ing China, 1723-1820'' (1991), a significant expansion of her PhD dissertation, which has been described as the "best contribution to Ch'ing institutional history in any language." After teaching at Yale for a number of years, Bartlett retired in 2005 as a full professor, and became Professor Emerita of History. Professor Emeritus
''Emeritus'' (; female: ''emerita'') is an adjective used to designate a retired chair, professor, pastor, bishop, pope, director, president, prime minister, rabbi, emperor, or other person who has been "permitted to retain as an honorary title the rank of the last office held". In some cases, the term is conferred automatically upon all persons who retire at a given rank, but in others, it remains a mark of distinguished service awarded selectively on retirement. It is also used when a person of distinction in a profession retires or hands over the position, enabling their former rank to be retained in their title, e.g., "professor emeritus". Smith College

Yung Wing
Yung Wing (; November 17, 1828April 21, 1912) was a Chinese-American diplomat and businessman. In 1854, he became the first Chinese student to graduate from an American university, Yale College. He was involved in business transactions between China and the United States and brought students from China to study in the United States on the Chinese Educational Mission. He became a naturalized American citizen, but his status was later revoked under the Naturalization Act of 1870. Early life After receiving his early education at a Mission School in Canton, Yung studied at Yale College to become, in 1854, the first-known Chinese student to graduate from an American university. He was a member and librarian of Brothers in Unity, a prominent Yale student literary society. His time at Yale was sponsored by Samuel Robbins Brown (1810–1880).
