Betongtavlen
Betongtavlen ("The Concrete Tablet") is a Norwegian architecture and civil engineering award issued by the National Associations of Norwegian Architects and the Norwegian Concrete Association. The award is issues to a structure "where concrete is used in an environmentally, esthetically and technically excellent way". The award was first issued in 1961 for Bakkehaugen Church and has as of 2011 been awarded 53 times. The award is not necessarily awarded every year, and up to four structures have been awarded in a year. Structures awarded prices include office buildings, campus buildings, ski jumps, houses, hotels, bridges, tunnels, dams, oil platforms, industrial facilities, viewpoints and cultural institutions. Prizes are not necessarily awarded immediately after the structure was completed—for instance, Elgeseter Bridge was completed in 1951 but awarded the prize in 2006. Erling Viksjø
Erling Viksjø (4 July 1910 – 2 December 1971) was a Norwegian architect. Viksjø was an early exponent of architectural modernism. He was also noted for his use of textured concrete as a building material in a number of his designs. Biography Viksjø was born in Trondheim, Norway. He studied architecture at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (''Norges tekniske høgskole'') until 1935. He then moved to Oslo where he joined the firm of architect Ove Bang. During World War II, he led the architectural firm following the death of Bang death in 1942. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany Viksjø was imprisoned in Grini concentration camp from April 1944 to the war's end in May 1945. After the war he started his own architectural office. Among his designs are Bakkehaugen Church (''Bakkehaugen kirke'') in Oslo and Tromsø Bridge (''Tromsøbrua'') in Tromsø. Havnelageret
Havnelageret (also known as Oslo Havnelager) is a commercial building located at Langkaia 1 in Oslo, Norway. It houses Norwegian Defence Estates Agency as tenants. History The building was erected in the period 1916-20 and designed by architect Bredo Henrik Berntsen. Havnelageret was dedicated to the huge development of ship transport during and after the First World War. The construction of the building was challenging and extremely difficult with contemporary technology, and with rising prices and wages during the First World War, all calculations were surpassed. From the original amount of 3.2 million Norwegian kroner, the final cost ended up at 9.3 million kroner. Construction of Havnelageret was very complicated because the building had to be built on bedrock as a result of its large size. This bedrock lay 20 meters below ground level. The difficult base conditions delayed the construction process, but in 1920, Havnelageret was finally based on the 130 pillars, which la ... Hedmark Museum
Anno Museum (formerly ''Hedmarks fylkesmuseum'') in Hamar, Norway is a regional museum for the municipalities of Stange, Hamar (which now includes Vang), Løten, and Ringsaker in central eastern Norway. It includes the medieval Cathedral Ruins in Hamar mentioned in Sigrid Undset's literary magnum opus ''Kristin Lavransdatter''. The cathedral ruins are secured under a glass shelter designed by Lund & Slaatto Architects and completed in 1998. John Engh
John Engh (5 June 1915 – 5 December 1996) was a Norwegian architect, most known for his innovative work in stone and concrete. Engh was born in New York City. He was the son of Adolf Abel Engh (1884-1941) and Anna Madsine Hald (1888-1972). His father was a Norwegian engineer who was working in the United States at the time of his birth. Engh grew up in Catalonia, Spain, where his father also worked as an engineer. Engh was educated at ETH Zürich and the Norwegian Institute of Technology where he earned his diploma in 1938. He had apprenticeships at various architectural firms in Oslo, Barcelona, and Pittsburgh before being hired as an architect with the Royal Norwegian Air Force at CFB Borden in Canada. During the World War II, he served at the Norwegian bases in Canada, where he designed and led development of the Little Norway and Little Skaugum. The Association of Norwegian Architects ( no, italic=no, Norske arkitekters landsforbund, NAL) is a country-wide Norwegian organization for graduate architects.
