Mongo Beti
Alexandre Biyidi Awala (30 June 1932 – 8 October 2001), known as Mongo Beti or Eza Boto, was a Cameroonian writer. Beti spent much of his life in France, studying at the Sorbonne and becoming a professor at Lycée Pierre Corneille. Life Though he lived in exile for many decades, Beti's life reveals an unflagging commitment to improvement of his home country. As one critic wrote after his death: "The militant path of this essayist, chronicler and novelist has been governed by one obsession: the quest for the dignity of African people." Early life The son of Oscar Awala and Régine Alomo, Alexandre was born in 1932 at Akométan, a small village 10 km from Mbalmayo, itself 45 km away from Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. Beti George
Beti George (born 19 January 1939) is a Welsh broadcaster of television and radio. She began working for the BBC in Swansea and was best known for presenting the nightly Welsh-language news programme, ''Newyddion''. Since 1987 she has presented a radio programme called ''Beti a'i Phobol'' on BBC Radio Cymru. Biography Early life George was born n Coed-y-bryn near Llangrannog. She studied at Cardiff University and Aberystwyth University. George taught at a grammar school in Brecon for 18 months. Career George started her career as a freelance with the BBC as a reporter for the programme "Bore Da" (''Good Morning'') alongside T. Glynne Davies who inspired her. She also introduced a number of music programmes as well as presenting the Welsh-language news broadcast ''Newyddion'' on S4C. Beti Jones
Beti Jones (1919-2006) was a Scottish social worker. She was awarded Commander of the British Empire (CBE), and transformed the Scottish legal system pertaining to children. She was the first social work officer in Scotland and she established the first hearing system for children. Early life Beti Jones was born in Wales. She was the first woman in her family to attend university at the University of Wales. She achieved a BA in History. Career She taught for two years. From 1943-1949, she was South Wales Organiser for the National Association of Girls’ Clubs. During the Second World War she helped refugees in Germany, and worked as a youth Education Officer for the Allied Control Commission for two years. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe, also known as Betty Kamya and Beti Kamya, is a businesswoman and politician in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community. She is the Inspector General of Government in Uganda, since 16 July 2021. Previously, from December 2019 until May 2021, she was the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (Uganda), Cabinet Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, in the Cabinet of Uganda. Beti Rimac
Beti Rimac (born in Pula) is a Croatian former volleyball player. She began playing volleyball in her hometown for ŽOK Pula, and, showing her talent since the early age, she became a member of the first team at the age of 14. She played for the club from 1990 to 1995. Between 1995 and 1997, she played for the team in the neighboring city of Rijeka, at the time when they were building a team that would eventually win two national championship titles (but without Rimac). Beti Rhys
Beti Rhys (2 April 1907 – 5 April 2003) was a Welsh bookseller and author who promoted literature in the Welsh language in South Wales in the 1950s and 1960s. Educated at the Howell's School, Llandaff, where a policy was enacted to bar anyone from speaking Welsh, she began her career teaching the language in schools. In 1950 Rhys began a bookshop specialising in books in Welsh and university textbooks in Cardiff. The shop was successful academically, financially and socially and attracted many notable Welsh individuals. After retiring in 1968, she travelled the world, wrote two books on the subject and a biography on Evan Rees, the Archdruid of Wales.
