Bethel Presbyterian Church, Singapore
The Presbyterian Church in Singapore (Abbreviation: PCS; ) is a Presbyterian Reformed church. The current moderator is the Rt Rev Keith Lai. The denomination motto is ''"Nec tamen consumebatur"'' which means ''"Yet it was not consumed"''. History In 1965, Singapore became independent from Malaysia. The Presbyterian Church in Singapore held its first Synod in January 1975. Two language presbyteries, English and Chinese, were formed. The church also runs several schools. Founding and development The church's origin can be traced back to the London Missionary Society. In 1829, the Rev Benjamin Keasberry came to Malaysia and Singapore, and started Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church in 1843. In 1856, Scottish residents established Orchard Road Presbyterian Church, and in 1881 the English Presbyterian Missionary Society under the leadership of John Cook, established a Chinese church called Glory Presbyterian Church. Bethel Presbyterian Church (Bethel Park, Pennsylvania)
Bethel Presbyterian Church is a Presbyterian Church located in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. It operates under the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. denomination under the Synod of the Trinity and the Pittsburgh Presbytery. The adjacent cemetery holds the remains of 14 Revolutionary War soldiers from the area. The municipality of Bethel Park was named after the church. The church was founded by Rev. John McMillan, the first Presbyterian missionary west of the Allegheny Mountains, during his third missionary trip. The origins of the Bethel Presbyterian Church date to November 5, 1776, when McMillan preached and baptized 5 children at Peter's Creek. Early services were held at a log house owned by Oliver Miller. The Peter's Creek congregation grew and later split into an Eastern Division and the Western Division. Bethel Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church near Clover, South Carolina. Bethel is one of the oldest churches in the region, and is the mother church of many neighboring congregations. The church was established by Rev. William Richardson, minister of the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church in Lancaster County, South Carolina, to service the burgeoning population on the west side of the Catawba River. Colonel Samuel Watson was an influential member of Bethel, as well as highly respected in the community. When talk of rebellion became general, Watson quickly rose to the cause.
