Bethany High School
Bethany High School is located in Bethany, Oklahoma, United States. The first class graduated in 1931. In the 2014 Bethany High School won the National Blue Ribbon Award. The school mascot is a broncho. History Bethany Public Schools was organized as School District No. 88 on December 27, 1910. Among its first trustees were J.W. Vawter and U.D.T. Murray, father of Wm. H. Murray, former governor of Oklahoma. Bonds were voted in the amount of $2,000 to erect the first building, a concrete-block, one-room structure, in 1910–11. This district was carved from a very small existing school. For a while, the school could support only one teacher, but by the 1914–15 term, the enrollment had increased to 89. This necessitated the creation of another room and the employment of a second teacher. In 1927-28 two years of high school credits were offered. Bethany is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1909 by followers of the Church of the Nazarene from Oklahoma City. History Bethany was founded July 28, 1909 as a community where members of the Church of the Nazarene, an evangelical Christian movement that developed from Holiness churches, could practice their religious beliefs without interference by non-members. The town was named after the biblical place of Bethany. The community quickly founded Oklahoma Holiness College (now known as Southern Nazarene University, SNU). The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. The time spent working on these projects contributes towards the monthly service hour requirement. Key Club International, also called Key Club, is an international service organization for high school students. As a student-led organization, Key Club's goal is to encourage leadership through serving others. Robert Hale (August 22, 1938 – August 23, 2023) was an American operatic bass-baritone. He was first a leading baritone at the New York City Opera for a decade, where he performed, alongside Beverly Sills, mostly in Mozart operas and in the revival of belcanto opera such as Donizetti's ''Lucia di Lammermoor''. Hale then shifted to heavier roles, performing the title role of Wagner's ''Der fliegende Holländer'' first in 1978 at the Opernhaus Wuppertal, Germany.
