Betafo, Arivonimamo
Betafo ("many roofs) is a village and fokontany in the district of Arivonimamo, in the region of Itasy, Madagascar. Population The village's inhabitants are said to be divided between descendants of nobles (''andriana'') and descendants of former slaves (''olona mainty'', literally "black people"). This aspect was the subject of a study by anthropologist David Graeber David Rolfe Graeber (; February 12, 1961September 2, 2020) was an American anthropologist and anarchist activist. His influential work in economic anthropology, particularly his books '' Debt: The First 5,000 Years'' (2011) and ''Bullshit Jobs .... His book, '' Lost People: Magic and the Legacy of Slavery in Madagascar'', contains a detailed recounting of the village's oral traditions, full of stories of scandalous murders, magical battles, forbidden romances, and spiteful ancestors sending fires and hailstorms from their tombs. Betafo
Tatamarina Lake in Betafo Betafo ("many roofs") is a town and urban municipality in Vakinankaratra Region in the Central Highlands of Madagascar. It is surrounded by volcanic peaks and is situated 22 km from Antsirabe. It is a typical Merina town in the Central Highlands. The town had an estimated population of 34,336 in 2018 and is the administrative centre of Betafo District. Geography Betafo is situated at an altitude of above sea level, in the central highlands of Madagascar. The town lies along the RN34 national road to Miandrivazo, west of Antsirabe and from the country's capital, Antananarivo. Arivonimamo
Arivonimamo is a city (commune urbaine) in Itasy Region, in the Central Highlands of Madagascar. Arivonimamo is connected by the National Road No.1 to Antananarivo (50 km in the east) and Tsiroanomandidy (west). The Antananarivo international airport was there until replaced by Ivato in 1967. Now it is an airbase. It borders to the communes of Miarinarivo in the west, Antananarivo and the Analamanga region in the North-east. Itasy is a region in central Madagascar. It borders Analamanga region in northeast, Vakinankaratra in south and Bongolava in northwest. The capital of the region is Miarinarivo, and the population was 897,962 in 2018. It is the smallest of all the 22 regions in area with , and is the most densely populated region after Analamanga. David Graeber
David Rolfe Graeber (; February 12, 1961September 2, 2020) was an American anthropologist and anarchist activist. His influential work in economic anthropology, particularly his books '' Debt: The First 5,000 Years'' (2011) and ''Bullshit Jobs'' (2018), and his leading role in the Occupy movement, earned him recognition as one of the foremost anthropologists and left-wing thinkers of his time. Born in New York to a working-class Jewish family, Graeber studied at Purchase College and the University of Chicago, where he conducted ethnographic research in Madagascar under Marshall Sahlins and obtained his doctorate in 1996.
