Robert Allen Palmer (19 January 1949 – 26 September 2003) was an English singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. He was known for his powerful, soulful voice and sartorial elegance, and for his stylistic explorations, combining soul, funk, jazz, rock, pop, reggae, and blues. While his "four-decade career incorporated every genre of music", Palmer is best known "for the pounding rock-soul classic, " Addicted to Love", and its accompanying video, which came to epitomise the glamour and excesses of the 1980s." Having started in the music industry in the 1960s, including a spell with Vinegar Joe, he found success in the 1980s, both in his solo career and with the Power Station, scoring Top 10 hits in the United Kingdom and the United States. ''Double Fun'' is the fourth solo album by Robert Palmer, released in 1978. Self-produced, this pop album is influenced by multiple genres including blue-eyed soul, disco and heavy rock but maintains an overall consistency of production which holds it all together. The album peaked at number 45 on the ''Billboard'' Pop Albums chart in 1978, his highest rank up to that point, and includes a top 20 hit, " Every Kinda People". The hit single from the album " Every Kinda People" was written by former Free bassist Andy Fraser. Fraser recorded his own version of the song which he never released but which Palmer heard. ''Woke Up Laughing'' is a 1998 album of remixes, rerecordings, and otherwise creative approaches to Robert Palmer's discography that's "inspired by a love of the world of music, 1977–1997, with many alternate versions appearing for the first time on disc," according to the CD's back cover. Gerald Seligman, the founder of EMI Hemisphere, suggested the initial idea for ''Woke Up Laughing'', but Palmer wasn't interested in a simple compilation, preferring instead a rethink and a fresh approach. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts.
