Bessie Abott
Bessie Abott (1878 – February 9, 1919) was an American operatic soprano who had an active international career during the early 20th century. She was particularly associated with the Paris Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, and excelled in performances of Italian and French operas of the Romantic Period. Biography Bessie Abott was one of twin daughters, Bessie and Jessie, born in Heuvelton, New York as Bessie Pickens to John Pickens Jr., and his wife, Frances Josephine Button. She utilized her grandmother's maiden name, Abbott, as her stage name and later dropped one "b" after she saw a misprinted theater program in Paris. Abott made her professional stage debut in a vaudeville act with her twin sister Jessie at Pickens Hall, which was built by her grandfather, John Pickens Sr. The act was known as the Abbott Sisters. In 1894 she was hired by Edward E. Rice to star in the American premiere of Ivan Caryll's '' Little Christopher Columbus'' at the Garden Theatre in New York. ...

Heuvelton, New York
Heuvelton is a small rural, incorporated, village located in St. Lawrence County in the state of New York, United States. It is approximately southeast of the city of Ogdensburg, in the Town of Oswegatchie. It is the only village in the town. Route 812 bisects the village, and is named State Street within the village boundaries. As of the 2010 census, the village had a total population of 714. History Prior to settlement, a Native American tribe called the "Oswegatchie" inhabited the local area. The settlement that became Heuvelton was originally named "Fordsburgh" after Nathan Ford, the man who has since become known as the "Father of St. Lawrence County". He is known to have established a second home in the village (principal home in Ogdensburg) and assisted in some of the area's early development. ''Little Christopher Columbus'' is a burlesque opera in two acts, with music by Ivan Caryll and Gustave Kerker and a libretto by George R. Sims and Cecil Raleigh. It opened on 10 October 1893 at the Lyric Theatre in London and then transferred to Terry's Theatre, running for a total of 421 performances, which was a very successful run at the time. May Yohé created the title role, and Furneaux Cook and E. J. Lonnen were in the cast. Mabel Love, Geraldine Ulmar and Florence St. John joined the cast as replacements. ''Mireille'' is an 1864 opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Michel Carré after Frédéric Mistral's poem Mirèio. The vocal score is dedicated to George V of Hanover. Composition history Mistral had become well known in Paris with the publication of the French prose translation of ''Mireio'' in 1859, and Gounod probably knew the work by 1861.Huebner 1992. Charles Gounod

Mathilde Marchesi (née Graumann; 24 March 1821 – 17 November 1913) was a German mezzo-soprano, a singing teacher, and a proponent of the bel canto vocal method. Biography Marchesi was born in Frankfurt. Her father's last name was Graumann; her aunt was the pianist and friend of Beethoven, Dorothea von Ertmann (née Graumann). Jacques Bouhy
Jacques-Joseph-André Bouhy (18 June 1848 – 29 January 1929) was a Belgian baritone, most famous for being the first to sing the "Toreador Song" in the role of Escamillo in the opera ''Carmen''. Jean de Reszke (14 January 18503 April 1925) was a Polish tenor and opera star. Reszke came from a musically inclined family. His mother gave him his first singing lessons and provided a home that was a recognized music centre. His sister Josephine and younger brother Édouard performed in Western Europe, and Reszke would perform with each of them throughout his career.
