Bertone Birusa
The Bertone Birusa is a concept car built in 2003 by Bertone and based on the BMW Z8. It debuted at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show. It was intended solely as a styling exercise and never went into production, neither intended to be supplied to any automobile producer, neither BMW, just a show car to gain projects. Specifications The Birusa uses the Z8's aluminum chassis, as well as its 4.9-liter DOHC V8 engine that produces at 6600 rpm and of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It features power assisted, roof hinged carbon fibre gull-wing doors, as well as a custom Bose sound system designed especially for the Birusa with 11 speakers and 2 subwoofers. Gruppo Bertone, commonly known as Bertone, was an Italian industrial design company which specialized in car styling, coachbuilding and manufacturing. It formerly was also a car manufacturing company. Bertone styling was distinctive, with most cars having a strong "family resemblance" even if they were badged by different manufacturers. Bertone had styled cars for Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, BMW, Citroën, Ferrari, FIAT, Iso, Lancia, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, and Volvo, among others. The Honda Motocompo is a folding scooter sold by Honda 1981–1983. It was the smallest scooter ever produced by Honda and it folded into a rectangle for easy storage. In the automotive industry, a gull-wing door, also known as a falcon-wing door or an up-door, is a car door that is hinged at the roof rather than the side, as pioneered by Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, first as a race car in 1952 ( W194), and then as a production sports car in 1954. Opening upwards, the doors evoke the image of a seagull's wings. In French, they are (butterfly doors). The papillon door was designed by Jean Bugatti for the 1939 Type 64, 14 years before Mercedes-Benz produced its similar, famous 300 SL gullwing door.
