It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Adelaide. Overview The House of Assembly was created in 1857, when South Australia attained self-government. Robert Nicholls
Sir Robert Dove Nicholls (27 June 1889 – 18 January 1970) was an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seats of Stanley from 1915 to 1938 and Young from 1938 to 1956 for the Liberal and Country League and party predecessors. He was one of the two members for Stanley for the entire time it was a two-member seat, and the member for Young for its entire existence. He served a record period as Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1933 to 1956. He retired at the 1956 election, after his seat was abolished in a redistribution and he failed to gain preselection for a different seat. Tom Stott
Tom Cleave Stott CBE (6 June 1899 – 21 October 1976) spent 37 years as an independent member of the South Australian House of Assembly, from 1933 to 1970. He served as Speaker of the House from 1962 to 1965 for the Tom Playford LCL government and 1968 to 1970 for the Steele Hall LCL government, both times in exchange for his confidence and supply vote to form minority governments. Early life Born in Norwood, South Australia, Stott completed primary school and began working for his father on their 2225 hectare wheat farm near Mindarie, in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, while continuing his education through Workers Educational Association of South Australia (WEA) classes and extensive reading. Reginald John Rudall (27 September 1885 – 1 January 1955) was a lawyer and politician in Gawler, South Australia. His father, Samuel Bruce Rudall, was member for Barossa 1906–1915. History Reginald Rudall was born at Gawler, the son of Samuel Bruce Rudall (1859–1945) and Margaret Rudall, née McNeil. He was educated at Miss Burton's Private School in Gawler, Queen's School in North Adelaide, and St. Peter's College. He read law at the University of Adelaide then served his articles with his father firm of Rudall & Rudall and in the firm G. & J. Downer. He was admitted to the Bar in 1907. In 1908 he was awarded a Rhodes scholarship, which he used to further his studies at Oxford University. He enlisted in the AIF in 1915 and served with the 50th Battalion in France.
