Arnold Adolph Berthold
Arnold Adolph Berthold (also Arnold Adolf Berthold) (26 February 1803, in Soest – 3 January 1861, in Göttingen) was a German scientist, most notably a physiologist and zoologist . He is best known in modern science for his pioneering experiments in the field of endocrinology. He published works on herpetology, ornithology, entomology and chemistry. Early life and education Berthold was the second-youngest of six children. His father was a carpenter and his family was not wealthy. He went to the local '' gymnasium'' (equivalent to a grammar school) where he studied the classics but was most interested in natural history. He followed his older brother's example to study medicine at University of Göttingen in August 1819. His thesis was under the direction of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752–1840) and he qualified on 10 September 1823. Avgust Berthold
Avgust Berthold (20 July 1880 – 1 August 1919) was a Slovenian photographer who is associated with the Impressionist movement. Childhood Berthold was born in Puštal (Wolkensperg) castle in Upper Carniola, Austria-Hungary. His mother, Ema Wolkensperg, was the sister of a Puštal baron who owned Wolkensperg castle. Soon after Berthold was born, his mother died and he was subsequently placed in the care of his father. As Berthold's father was preoccupied with employed work, Berthold was raised by his grandmother. Berthold was seven years of age when his father died of disease and his education was consequently overseen by relatives in Puštal. Photography and art Berthold first encountered photography with Rihard Jakopič, who was also living in Puštal. David Berthold is one of Australia's most prominent theatre directors and cultural leaders. He has directed for most of Australia's major theatre companies, as well as in London and Berlin, and has led several key arts organisations. He was Artistic Director of Brisbane Festival, one of Australia's major international arts festivals and Queensland’s largest arts and cultural event. Rudolf Berthold
Oskar Gustav Rudolf Berthold (24 March 1891 – 15 March 1920) was a German flying ace of World War I. Between 1916 and 1918, he shot down 44 enemy planes—16 of them while flying one-handed. Berthold's perseverance, bravery, and willingness to return to combat while still wounded made him one of the most famous German pilots of World War I. Berthold joined the German Imperial Army in 1909, and paid for his own piloting lessons, qualifying in September 1913. He was one of the pioneer aviators of World War I, flying crucial reconnaissance missions during his nation's 1914 invasion of France. His reported observations affected the German troop dispositions at the First Battle of the Aisne. During 1915, he became one of the first flying aces. Thomas Berthold
Thomas Berthold (born 12 November 1964) is a former German footballer and manager, who played as a defender. He currently works as a pundit and analyst for several TV stations. Club career Berthold was born in Hanau, Hesse. His first club was TuSpV KeWa Wachenbuchen before he joined the youth ranks of SG Eintracht Frankfurt in 1978. He played 332 games in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 goals. He began his career in 1982 with Eintracht Frankfurt and played for them until 1987. From 1987 until 1991 he played in Italy: for Hellas Verona (1987–1989) and A.S. Roma (1989–1991). He then returned to Germany, signing for FC Bayern Munich (1991–1993) and VfB Stuttgart (1993–2000). Richard Martin Berthold (born 1946) is an American classical historian, an associate professor emeritus at the University of New Mexico. He is the author of two books on classical history, and is also known for his controversial positions on politics and religion. Books Berthold is the author of the book ''Rhodes in the Hellenistic Age'' (Cornell University Press, 1984) and of the self-published ''Dare to Struggle: The History and Society of Greece'' (2009). Education and career Berthold graduated from Stanford University in 1967.
