A cabin or berthing is an enclosed space generally on a ship or an aircraft. A cabin which protrudes above the level of a ship's deck (ship), deck may be referred to as a deckhouse. Sailing ships In sailing ships, the officers and paying passengers would have an individual or shared cabin. The Captain (nautical), captain or commanding officer would occupy the "great cabin" that normally spanned the width of the stern and had large windows. Docking and berthing of spacecraft is the joining of two space vehicles. This connection can be temporary, or partially permanent such as for space station modules. ''Docking'' specifically refers to joining of two separate free-flying space vehicles. ''Berthing'' refers to mating operations where a passive module/vehicle is placed into the mating interface of another space vehicle by using a robotic arm. Because the modern process of un-berthing requires more crew labor and is time-consuming, berthing operations are unsuited for rapid crew evacuations in the event of an emergency. A berth is a designated location in a port or harbour used for mooring vessels when they are not at sea. Berths provide a vertical front which allows safe and secure mooring that can then facilitate the unloading or loading of cargo or people from vessels. Locations in a port Berth is the term used in ports and harbors for a designated location where a vessel may be moored, usually for the purposes of loading and unloading. Berths are designated by the management of a facility (e.g., port authority, harbor master). Vessels are assigned to berths by these authorities. Most berths are alongside a quay or a jetty (large ports) or a floating dock (small harbors and marinas). Berths are either general or specific to the types of vessel that use them. The size of the berths varies from for a small boat in a marina to over for the largest tankers. A berth is a bed or sleeping accommodation on vehicles. Space accommodations have contributed to certain common design elements of berths. Beds in boats or ships While beds on large ships are little different from those on shore, the lack of space on smaller yachts means that bunks must be fit in wherever possible. Some of these berths have specific names: ;V-berth: Frequently yachts have a bed in the extreme forward end of the hull (usually in a separate cabin called the forepeak). Because of the shape of the hull this bed is basically triangular, though most also have a triangular notch cut out of the middle of the aft end, splitting it partially into two separate beds and making it more of a V shape, hence the name. This notch can usually be filled in with a detachable board and cushion, creating something more like a double bed (though with drastically reduced space for the feet; 12" wide is typical). ''Berth'' is a live CD/DVD by American rock band the Used that was released on February 6, 2007. It has since been certified gold. DVD information Along with the Vancouver concert from the 2005 Taste of Chaos tour, the DVD updates the band's history since 2003's ''Maybe Memories'' with footage about 2004's ''In Love and Death'', the world tour, and the making of the new album Lies for the Liars as well as music videos. In addition, the band invited fans to submit questions and then videotaped those selected. It also gave a preview of "Pretty Handsome Awkward", the first music to be heard off of ''Lies for the Liars'', and the recording of "My Pesticide" and "Tunnel". Delay The Used were supposed to release a live album in early 2006, but one of the people in charge of filming mysteriously disappeared with much of the footage that was earmarked to be part of the DVD.
