Berta Valle
Berta Valle (born c. 1984) is a Nicaraguan television presenter and human rights activist. She is the wife of former 2021 presidential pre-candidate Félix Maradiaga, who was detained by the government of Daniel Ortega on June 8, 2021. Early life and education Valle, born circa 1984, grew up with two brothers. She holds a BS in Business Economics from the Catholic University of Nicaragua and an MBA from INCAE Business School in Managua. In 2003, she was crowned queen of the Carnaval Alegría por la Vida. Career Valle spent eight years working as a television presenter on the morning show Primera Hora. She also worked as a station manager at Vos TV, and on a show she created in 2015 with Xiomara Blandino called Berta y Xiomara: Todo en Positivo. Félix Maradiaga
Félix Alejandro Maradiaga Blandón (born 23 September 1976) is a Nicaraguan academic and political activist. From 2002 to 2006, he was Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense under President Enrique Bolaños. Maradiaga is the founding co-director of the Civil Society Leadership Institute. A leader of the opposition group Blue and White National Unity, Maradiaga was a pre-candidate for president in the 2021 Nicaraguan general election. On June 8, 2021, he was arrested by the Ortega government. Childhood Felix was born in Jinotega and grew up in Matagalpa. His childhood was marked by the loss of his father, who died in a traffic accident. His mother, a high school teacher who also worked as a merchant to support the family, became the head of the home. 2021 Nicaraguan General Election
General elections were held in Nicaragua on 7 November 2021 to elect the President, the National Assembly and members of the Central American Parliament. President Daniel Ortega of the Sandinista National Liberation Front sought re-election, while five opposition candidates appeared on the ballot. In early June, police arrested five other potential opposition candidates: Cristiana Chamorro Barrios, Arturo Cruz Jr., Félix Maradiaga, Juan Sebastián Chamorro and Miguel Mora. In July, candidates Medardo Mairena and were arrested, while Luis Fley and went into exile due to threats of arrest. Critics stated that these arrests were intended to prevent the opposition candidates from running against Ortega. Juan Sebastián Chamorro García (born 1971) is a Nicaraguan economist, businessman and politician. He was a pre-candidate for president in the 2021 Nicaraguan general election until he was detained in a wave of arrests of opposition candidates and other civic leaders. The Independent Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Independiente - PLI) is a Nicaraguan political party, which separated from Somoza's Nationalist Liberal Party (PLN) in 1944 and took part in the probably fraudulent election of 1947, won by Somoza's favored candidate. The PLI participated in the 1984 election, winning 9.6% of vote for President with its candidate Virgilio Godoy. The National Assembly ( es, Asamblea Nacional) is the legislative branch of the government of Nicaragua founded in 1986 to replace the bicameral National Congress of Nicaragua, which consisted of two chambers.
