Bert Parnaby
James Bertram "Bert" Parnaby (4 March 1924 – 30 July 1992) was a British actor who was notable for a string of TV and Film roles from the 1960s through the 1980s. His TV roles included performances in ''Blackadder'', ''By the Sword Divided'', ''Juliet Bravo'', ''Inspector Morse'' and ''Last of the Summer Wine''. In 1988, he appeared as Father Christmas in the BBC adaptation of ''The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe''. His film credits included ''Prick Up Your Ears ''Prick Up Your Ears'' is a 1987 British film, directed by Stephen Frears, about the playwright Joe Orton and his lover Kenneth Halliwell. ''Blackadder'' is a series of four period British sitcoms, plus several one-off instalments, which originally aired on BBC One from 1983 to 1989. All television episodes starred Rowan Atkinson as the antihero Edmund Blackadder and Tony Robinson as Blackadder's dogsbody, Baldrick. The series, created by John Hawkesworth (producer), John Hawkesworth, was a historical drama set during the mid-17th century, dealing with the impact of the English Civil War on the fictional Lacey family, made up of both Cavalier, Royalist and Parliament of England, Parliamentarian supporters. Father Christmas is the traditional English name for the personification of Christmas.
