Bert Lipsham
Herbert Broughall Lipsham (29 April 1878 – 23 March 1932) was a professional footballer who won the 1902 FA Cup Final with Sheffield United. Club career Educated at the King's School, Chester Lipsham was a goal-scoring outside left. He began by playing in his home city with Chester St Oswalds before making his debut for Chester in the 1895–96 season. He was one of four brothers to play for Chester, with the others including Jack who went on to play for Liverpool. After a spell with Rockferry, Lipsham joined Crewe Alexandra in the 1898–99 season as a professional and was an immediate success. So much so that Derby County, Notts County and Sheffield United showed an immediate interest in him. Crewe were not anxious to part with him, but a substantial offer induced them to transfer him to Sheffield United in 1900. Jack Lipsham
Jack Lipsham (1881 – 1959) was an English footballer. He played in The Football League for Liverpool, although much of his career was spent in non–league football with Chester. He played more than 300 games for the club in three spells. Playing career Jack was one of four brothers to play for their hometown club of Chester, with older brother Bert going on to be capped by England. He broke into the side in the left wing slot at the start of the 1903–04 season at a similar time to when brother Tommy was emerging on the right. In 1906 he joined Football League champions Liverpool, but just a year and three appearances later he was back at Chester and helped them win the Welsh Cup in 1908. The 1901 FA Cup Final was an association football match between Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 20 April 1901 at the Crystal Palace stadium in south London. It was the final match of the 1900–01 FA Cup, the 30th edition of the world's oldest football knockout competition, and England's primary cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, better known as the FA Cup. Sheffield United were appearing in their second final, having won the cup in 1899, and Tottenham Hotspur in their first. Both teams joined the competition in the first round proper and progressed through four rounds to the final. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) is the trade union for professional association footballers in England and Wales. Founded in 1907, it is the world's oldest professional sport trade union, and has over 5,000 members. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
