Springtime In The Sierras
''Springtime in the Sierras'' is a 1947 American Trucolor Western film directed by William Witney and starring Roy Rogers, Trigger, Jane Frazee and Andy Devine. The film is now in the public domain. Plot Singing cowboy Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers are bringing horses to sell to Jean Loring's (Stephanie Bachelor) ranch. They come across an orphaned faun and decide to bring it to Captain Foster, a retired army captain who gave up the army to look after orphaned animals. Cap has the faun's mortally wounded mother who has been a victim of a gang of poachers shooting out of season that have been nearly wiping out the local animal population. Cap explains that the gang is well organised and sells their meat throughout the nation. Cap captures the gang of vicious poachers who wear surplus USMC camouflage uniforms and use high powered rifles with sound suppressors. Bertram Baker
Bertram Llewellyn Baker (January 10, 1898 – March 8, 1985) was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1948 to 1970, representing central Brooklyn, New York. He was the first Black person elected to any office by voters in Brooklyn. Early life Baker was born on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies and immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1915, when he was 17 years old. He settled in Brooklyn, N.Y., obtained a degree in accounting from La Salle Extension University correspondence school in Chicago, and became a U.S. citizen in 1924. Baker became a bookkeeper at Cox & Nostrand, a lighting manufacturer in Brooklyn, where he worked his way up to head of the bookkeeping and then the accounting departments. After being denied a promotion that he said was because of his race, he went into private practice as an accountant. Bert Bakker
Lambertus Jozef (Bert) Bakker (3 April 1912 in Huizum (Leeuwarden) – 19 September 1969 in Ilpendam) was a Dutch writer and publisher in the Netherlands. He wrote literary studies, two novels, poetry, and children's books. In World War II he was involved in the Dutch Resistance and assisted in the (illegal at the time) publication of ''Vrij Nederland''. After the war he founded a publishing company under his own name; his nephew, also named Bert Bakker, ran the company until 1993. In 1953 he founded the literary magazine '' Maatstaf'', which he edited until 1969. He (along with fellow publisher Geert van Oorschot) was described as a "living legend" in the Dutch publishing industry, having supported and published authors such as Adriaan Roland Holst, Martinus Nijhoff, Gerrit Achterberg, and Neeltje Maria Min.
