Berry Sakharof
Berry Sakharof ( he, ברי סחרוף, ; born 7 July 1957) is an Israeli rock guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. Sakharof is one of Israel's most popular and critically acclaimed rock musicians, and is often referred to as "the prince of Israeli rock". Biography Sakharof was born in İzmir, Turkey, in 1957 into a Jewish family. His family immigrated to Israel when he was 3 years old. Start of career Sakharof started his musical career at the age of 16 as a member of Cosmic Dream. Another member was his friend, Rami Fortis. Together they performed in rock clubs in Israel. 1980s Sakharof first came to public attention in the 1980s. Right after his military service Sakharof flew to Belgium, where he became a founding member of post-punk band Minimal Compact, the first Israeli rock band to achieve significant success outside Israel. Emmanuel Lévinas
Emmanuel Levinas (; ; 12 January 1906 – 25 December 1995) was a French philosopher of Lithuanian Jewish ancestry who is known for his work within Jewish philosophy, existentialism, and phenomenology, focusing on the relationship of ethics to metaphysics and ontology. Life and career Emmanuelis Levinas (later adapted to French orthography as Emmanuel Levinas) was born in 1906 into a middle-class Litvak family in Kaunas, in present-day Lithuania, then Kovno district, at the Western edge of the Russian Empire. Because of the disruptions of World War I, the family moved to Charkow in Ukraine in 1916, where they stayed during the Russian revolutions of February and October 1917. She Appeared Like the Wind (Hebrew: היא הופיעה כמו הרוח, He Hofi'ah Kmo Haruach) is a studio album jointly recorded by Ehud Banai and Berry Sakharof during the course of 2016 and released on January 8, 2017. The entire album is composed of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) songs. The majority of the lyrics were translated into Hebrew by Banai and Sakharof. The album has one instrumental piece “Trenta Lira” and one song “Noches Noches” is sung in the original Ladino. Background Banai & Sakharof were exposed to Ladino songs as children: Banai listened to recordings and songs of the Ladino researcher Yitzhak Isaac Levy who was a friend of his father, whereas Sakharof, who immigrated to Israel with his family from Turkey, heard the language and songs at home. During one of their meetings in 2001 Banai told Sakharof that he has some old Ladino recordings by Levy.
