Bernos-Beaulac
Bernos-Beaulac (; oc-gascon, Bernòs e Baulac) is a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. The principal settlement in the commune is the village of Beaulac, situated where the ' crosses the Ciron river. The RN 524 forms part of the Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit, a route which has been modified to allow its use by the oversize road convoys conveying body sections and wings of the Airbus A380 airliner. Major works were required to permit this, including widening of the bridge over the Ciron, reconstructed junctions and the rebuilding of of road through Beaulac with new pedestrian paths, central islands and lighting. Population Personalities * Mitt Romney was injured in a car accident June 16, 1968 in Bernos-Beaulac, when he was a Mormon missionary in France. Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit
The ''Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit'' is a water and road route that has been created in order to allow the transport of the outsize structural sections of the Airbus A380 airliner from their point of manufacture to Toulouse for final assembly. The route was largely created by modifying existing waterways and public roads, with the addition of some new road sections. Specially constructed ships, barges and road vehicles carry the aircraft parts on the route, as traditional transportation methods proved unfeasible. The Ciron (; oc, Siron) is a left tributary of the Garonne, in Gironde, Southwest France. It is long. Geography The Ciron rises in the eastern end of the Moors of Gascony, in Landes. It flows north-west, mainly through the moors of Gironde, crosses the Sauternes vineyard and joins the Garonne at Barsac, downstream from Langon. The moisture it brings, and morning mists it causes, are favorable to the development of ''Botrytis cinerea'' on grapes, a fungus that contributes to the high quality and renown of Sauternes wines. The Airbus A380 is a large wide-body airliner that was developed and produced by Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner and only full-length double-deck jet airliner.
