Bernie Smith
Bernard Keith Smith (19 December 1927 – 21 April 1985) was an Australian rules footballer who represented in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s and 1950s. Smith made his name as a back pocket player in a successful period for Geelong. SANFL career Smith commenced his career with West Adelaide in the SANFL as a 16-year-old on 28 April 1945, playing primarily as a centre. He won the Trabilsie Medal, West Adelaide's best and fairest award, in 1947, the same year that he played in their Grand Final triumph over Norwood, in which he was widely acknowledged as the best player afield. Also in 1947 Smith represented South Australia at the interstate carnival, attracting the attention of the Victorian club, . SANFL
The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Bruce Morrison (footballer)
Bruce Morrison (19 June 1923 – 12 April 2012) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). "Joey" Morrison was recruited from Bairnsdale, Victoria after winning the 1947 Gippsland Football League best and fairest, Trood award and a best on ground performance in their 1947 premiership win against Sale. Morrison became a highly regarded full-back for the Geelong Football Club. He played 130 games for Geelong and won a string of awards in his first season of VFL football, winning the 1948 club best and fairest, best first year player, Geelong Workers Club best and fairest award and the Geelong Advertiser Trophy. He was well remembered for a particular kick against the Footscray at Whitten Oval. In the sport of Australian rules football, each of the eighteen players in a team is assigned to a particular named position on the field of play. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. There are 18 positions in Australian rules football, not including four (sometimes 6–8) interchange players who may replace another player on the ground at any time during play. The 1951 VFL season was the 55th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 21 April until 29 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. Reg Hickey
Reginald Joseph Hickey (27 March 1906 – 13 December 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who was a player, the captain, the captain-coach, and the non-playing coach for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1928 and 1940 (player), and between 1949 and 1959 (non-player). In the 34 seasons from 1926 to 1959 he was involved in four Geelong VFL premierships: one as a player (1931), one as captain-coach ( 1937), and two as non-playing coach (1951, and 1952) – he was also the non-playing coach of a losing Grand Final team (1953), where an inaccurate Geelong (8.17 (65)) lost to Collingwood (11.11 (77)).
