Bernau Bei Berlin
Bernau bei Berlin (English ''Bernau by Berlin'', commonly named Bernau) is a German town in the Barnim district. The town is located about northeast of Berlin. History Archaeological excavations of Mesolithic-era sites indicate that this area has been inhabited since about 8800 BC. The city was first mentioned in 1232. The reasons for its founding are not known. According to a legend, Albert I of Brandenburg permitted the founding of the city in 1140 because of the good beer which was offered to him. Beer was brewed with water from the river Panke. Therefore, it was forbidden by law to pollute this river with waste and excrement when brewing took place. Bernau had its boom years before the Thirty Years' War. Large parts of the defensive wall with town gate and wet moats are relics of that time. Bernau am Chiemsee (written ) is a municipality in the district of Rosenheim in Germany on the Lake Chiemsee, and a Luftkurort. Geography Topography The Luftkurort Bernau lies in the Chiemgau area at the south-western bank of the lake Chiemsee. Bernau is close to the Bundesautobahn 8 (A 8) Munich – Salzburg and the Rosenheim–Salzburg railway. In the south are the Chiemgau Alps (German: ''Chiemgauer Alpen'') with the prominent summit, the Kampenwand. In the east is vast bogland, where peat used to be harvested in large quantities. An old rail station for the transportation of peat in the bog area Kendlmühlfilzen reminds of these times. Rosenheim is 24km away, Munich 83km, Kufstein 35km, Traunstein 26km, Salzburg 58km and Reit im Winkl 25km. Rosenheim is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the south of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are, clockwise from the west, Miesbach, Munich, Ebersberg, Mühldorf, and Traunstein, with the Austrian province Tirol across the southern border. The district entirely surrounds the city of Rosenheim, which is independently administered but hosts the district's administration; both the city and the district share the "RO" designation for their license plates. Bernau is a municipality in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Geography Bernau is located in a high valley in the southern Black Forest, south of the Feldberg and west of the Schluchsee. Bernau includes the valley Bernauer Alb, a source stream of the Alb, and extends from 800 meters above sea level up to 1415 meters high.
