Bernard Kelly (Irish Politician)
Bernard Kelly (1808 – 1 January 1887) was an Irish nationalist politician who served as the first Irish Parliamentary Party MP for the constituency of South Donegal in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was first elected in the 1885 general election and re-elected in the general election of 1886. He died in office in 1887. Bernard Kelly (born c. 1823 New York City) was an American politician from New York. Life He married Hannah Ann Doxey (d. 1902). He was for two terms Superintendent of Wharves, Piers and Slips. As a Democrat, he was a member of the New York State Senate (5th D.) in 1860 and 1861; and an Alderman of New York City (12th D.) in 1864 and 1865. In 1870, Kelly oversaw the construction of swimming baths for the New York State Department of Public Works The office of Superintendent of Public Works was created by an 1876 amendment to the New York State Constitution. Bernard Matthew Kelly (May 7, 1918 – December 5, 2006) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop. Background Born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 7, 1918, Kelly attended his elementary and middle School studies at Providence College and in his studies to the priesthood at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome and the Theological College of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained priest on June 3, 1944. After ordination, Kelly received his doctorate at the Catholic University in Canon Law and served as assistant pastor and as an instructor at La Salle Academy in Providence. He also served as chaplain of Mother of Hope Novitiate in Warwick, Rhode Island and as spiritual director of Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick Neck. In 1947, Kelly was named marriage defender of the Diocese of Providence. Bernard Philip Kelly (April 25, 1907—November 2, 1958) was an English Catholic layman who worked in a bank, raised a large family, and regularly penned, over 25 years, philosophical essays and book reviews for the Dominican journal ''Blackfriars''. His friendship with foremost British Thomists and leading distributists of his day, and with the Indian scholar Ananda Coomaraswamy—along with his love for the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins—permitted his short life to become the matrix of a rich body of writings. Works Kelly's inspiration was drawn in part from scholastic philosophy and, in particular, the metaphysics of Thomas Aquinas.
