Bernard Georges (politician)
Bernard Georges (born 24 August 1955) is a Seychellois politician who currently serves as the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly of Seychelles. Biography A lawyer by profession, he is a member of the Seychelles National Party, and was first elected to the Assembly in 2002. Georges' popularity in Seychelles was fueled in part by his radio program on Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation's SBC Radio which explained the laws and how they worked to people of Seychelles. He and his wife, Annette, run the law firm, "Georges and Georges", which specializes in property and commercial disputes. In 2015, he was appointed to Judge of the Court of Justice for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa. Annette Georges
Annette Mary Solange Georges (born 1957) is a lawyer, Seychellois politician and the first leader of the Seychelles United Opposition Party. Biography Annette Georges was born in Seychelles in 1957. She grew up in a family that was already involved in the politics of her country. Her father was a minister and a member of the Seychelles National Assembly on the ticket of Seychelles Democratic Party (SDP) that later metamorphosed into the SDP-SPUD after forming a coalition with the Seychelles People's Unity Party (SPUP). She studied law in the United Kingdom and was called to the bar in 1980. Her first job upon return from the United Kingdom was a position in the office of the Attorney General. She rose through the ranks until she became deputy attorney general. In 1985, she was appointed to become a Magistrate. The Seychelles National Party (SNP) is a liberal political party in Seychelles. Its followers emphasize active multiparty democracy, respect for human rights and liberal economic reforms. It was founded in response to what it called the "totalitarian regime" of former President France-Albert René. It publishes a newsletter called ''Regar'', which is frequently sued for libel by government officials. On ''Regar's'' front page of every issue is a quote from the constitution of Seychelles invoking their right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
