Bernard Crettaz
Bernard Crettaz (29 May 1938 – 28 November 2022) was a Swiss sociologist and ethnologist. Biography After his secondary education in Sion, Crettaz earned a doctorate in sociology from the University of Geneva in 1979 with the thesis ''Nomades et sédentaires''. He first worked as an assistant at the University before becoming a teacher at the ''Institut d'études sociales'' and later a researcher at the ''Institut de médecine légale sur la prison de Saint-Antoine''. In 1976, Crettaz became curator of the European Department of the '' Musée d'ethnographie de Genève'', which contained the Collection . He also directed the department of sociology at the University of Geneva until 2003. In 1977, he met anthropologist Yvonne Preiswerk, whom he later married. In 1992, he openly supported an accession of Switzerland to the European Union. Vissoie is a village in the district of Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais. The village became an independent municipality in 1905 when it split from the municipalities of Ayer and Grimentz. The ' ("Geneva Ethnography Museum") is one of the most important ethnographic museums in Switzerland. History The MEG, or Geneva Museum of Ethnography, was founded on 25 September 1901, on the initiative of Professor Eugène Pittard (1867-1962), who also held the first Chair of Anthropology at the University of Geneva. It was first housed in Mon Repos villa. Pittard brought together public and private collections, mainly the ethnographic collections of the Archaeology Museum and the Musée Ariana, the holdings of the Evangelical Missionary Society Museum and weapons from the Geneva History Museum. Yvonne Preiswerk
Yvonne Preiswerk (born 3 June 1937 – 14 April 1999) was a Swiss anthropologist. She was a lecturer at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IUED) in Geneva and professor of ethnology at the Universities of Friborg and Geneva. She was the author of a study on mortuary rites, she is also a scientific editor and director of publications in various fields of anthropology. Biography After commercial training, Yvonne Preiswerk moved to Argentina for four years with her husband and two daughters. On her return, she settled in Geneva. In 1972, as a stay-at-home mother, speaking English, German and Spanish, she resumed her training by obtaining a diploma in anthropology at the University Institute for Development Studies (IUED) in Geneva.
