Bernard Chunga
Bernard Chunga is a Kenyan lawyer and a former Chief Justice of Kenya. Justice Chunga resigned from the office on 26 February 2003 paving the way for the appointment of Justice Johnson Evans Gicheru. Early career Justice Chunga previously worked as Deputy Public Prosecutor. As Deputy Public Prosecutor, he was the lead counsel in the commission of Inquiry into Robert Ouko’s death which was led by Justice Evans Gicheru. He was also the prosecutor at the trial of Jonah Anguka, a former DC implicated in Ouko murder. Tribunal and Resignation Rather than facing a tribunal established by the newly elected President Mwai Kibaki to investigate alleged misconduct, Justice Chunga resigned. The Bernard Chunga Tribunal was a tribunal set up to investigate the then Chief Justice Bernard Chunga. Court Of Appeal Of Kenya
The Court of Appeal of Kenya is established under Article 164 of the constitution of Kenya and consists of a number of judges, being not fewer than twelve. The court handles appeals arising over the decisions of the High Court of Kenya, the Environment & Land Court and the Employment & Labour Relations Court as well as any other court or tribunal as provided for in law. The judges of the Court of Appeal elect one Judge to represent them on the Judicial Service Commission. The Court of Appeal currently has six registries, one each in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nyeri, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret. Mwai Kibaki
Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki (15 November 1931 – 21 April 2022) was a Kenyan politician who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 until April 2013 and is regarded as one of Kenya's founding fathers. He had previously served as the fourth Vice-President of Kenya for ten years from 1978 to 1988 under President Daniel arap Moi. He also held cabinet ministerial positions in the Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi governments, including as minister for Finance (1969–1981) under Kenyatta, and Minister for Home Affairs (1982–1988) and Minister for Health (1988–1991) under Moi. Jonah Anguka is a Kenyan author and former District Commissioner at Nakuru, known as the only person to date to have been tried for the murder of Dr Robert Ouko, Kenya's Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was shot dead on 13 February 1990. Early life Anguka graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1977 with a degree in political science. He served in Kenya's provincial administration during which time he was given paramilitary training at the Embakasi General Service Unit (GSU) Training Centre. Later he served in various postings as a district officer before becoming the District Commissioner (DC) to Nakuru in 1986. As such he was part of Kenya's internal security and intelligence organisation and directly responsible to Hezekiah Oyugi, then the Permanent Secretary, Provincial and Internal Security. Robert Ouko (politician)
The Honorable Dr. John Robert Ouko (31 March 1931 – c. 13 February 1990), commonly known as Robert Ouko, was a Kenyan politician who served as Foreign Minister of Kenya from 1979 to 1983 and from 1988 to 1990. Robert Ouko served in the government of Kenya from the colonial period through the presidencies of Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi. He was a member of the National Assembly for Kisumu and a cabinet minister, rising to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation by 1990. He was murdered in Kenya on 13 February 1990. The murder case, perhaps the most intriguing in Kenyan history, remains unsolved. A report presented in parliament in 2010 states that the murder was carried out in one of then President Daniel arap Moi's official residences. Johnson Evans Gicheru
Johnson Evan Gicheru (died 25 December 2020) was a Kenyan lawyer and a Chief Justice of Kenya. He was appointed by President Mwai Kibaki upon his election in 2003. He was the 12th Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya and served the longest term by any African Chief Justice in Kenya's history, from 2003 and finally retiring on 27 February 2011. He died on 25 December 2020. Early career Early in his career, he worked as a Senior State Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General and as an administrative officer in the Office of the President. Justice Gicheru was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 1982 and on 8 June 1988 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal.
