Berkeley Heights is a township in Union County, New Jersey, United States. A commuter town in northern-central New Jersey, the township is nestled within the Raritan Valley region in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 13,183, reflecting a decline of 224 (−1.7%) from the 13,407 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,427 (+11.9%) from the 11,980 counted in the 1990 Census. Berkeley Heights was originally incorporated as New Providence Township by the New Jersey Legislature on November 8, 1809, from portions of Springfield Township, while the area was still part of Essex County. New Providence Township became part of the newly formed Union County at its creation on March 19, 1857. Gillette is the first of three station stops on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines of NJ Transit in Long Hill Township, New Jersey. The station consists of a small low-level side platform with a covered bench shelter on the inbound side of the single track. The station is located at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Jersey Avenue in the Gillette portion of Long Hill Township. The station has 82 parking spaces and bike lockers. History George Howell was an engineer who surveyed the area for the New Jersey West Line Railroad. The station is named after the local unincorporated area. The Gladstone Branch (also known as the Gladstone Line) is a commuter rail line operated by NJ Transit from Gladstone station, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, to either Hoboken Terminal or New York Penn Station. It is one of two branches of the Morris & Essex Lines. The Gladstone Branch junctions with the Morristown Line at Summit.
