Berkadzor Explosion
On 25 September 2023, at about 19:00 ( UTC+4), an explosion at a fuel depot in Berkadzor near Stepanakert, in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, resulting in the deaths of at least 218 people and 120 injuries. The explosion occurred amidst the chaotic exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, following a major military offensive launched by Azerbaijan against the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. Explosion The explosion occurred during the mass exodus of thousands of ethnic Armenians from the region, following Azerbaijan's large-scale military offensive launched a week earlier against the self-declared Republic of Artsakh. Prior to the offensive, the region had been subjected to a months-long blockade by Azerbaijan, causing shortages of essential supplies, including fuel. Settlement near Sovkhoz No. 2 of Garsharabtrest ( az, Qarşərabtrestin 2 nömrəli sovxozu yanında qəsəbə) is a former settlement in the Khojaly Urban administrative district of Khojaly District of Azerbaijan. After Azerbaijan restored its independence, sovkhozes there were liquidated. Currently, the name of this locality is not included in the Urban administrative district of the town of Khojaly and in general the entire Khojaly region. Samvel Sergeyi Shahramanyan ( hy, Սամվել Սերգեյի Շահրամանյան; born 1 December 1978) is an Armenian politician serving since 10 September 2023 as the 5th and final president of the Republic of Artsakh, to be dissolved on 1 January 2024. He was also State Minister from August to September 2023. He also served as Minister of Military Patriotic Upbringing, Youth, Sports and Tourism, Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh and a Major General in the Artsakh Defence Army.
