Berenguer D'Anoia
Berenguer d'Anoia or de Noya (fl. c. 1300) was a Catalan troubadour from Majorca. He wrote the ''Mirall de trobar'', an Occitan poetic, grammatical, and rhetorical treatise in the tradition of the ''Razos de trobar'' of Raimon Vidal and the ''Regles de trobar'' of Jofre de Foixà, a genre always popular in Catalan country. Berenguer's parents were noble Catalans, originally from the village of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, who settled at Inca in Majorca following its conquest by James the Conqueror. This information concerning his family and origins is found hidden in his own writings in the form of an acrostic which states: The ''Mirall'' commences with a prologue explaining its division into four chapters that study rhetorical forms and major poetic errors. ''Mirall'' is a sculpture by Jaume Plensa, installed outside the Allen Institute in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood, in the U.S. state of Washington. Located at the intersection of Mercer Street and 9th Avenue North, the 2015 painted stainless steel sculpture includes two seated figures facing one another, each made of letters from eight alphabets: Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Hindi, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin, and Russian. Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Alt Penedès in Catalonia, Spain; and the centre of production of a sparkling wine known as '' cava''. It is situated in the north-east of the Penedès Depression at the confluence of the Avernó river and the Anoia river. Alba (poetry)
The ''alba'' (; "sunrise") is a genre of Old Occitan lyric poetry. It describes the longing of lovers who, having passed a night together, must separate for fear of being discovered. A common figure found in the ''alba'' is the ''guaita'' ("sentry" or "guard"), a friend who alerts the lovers when the hour has come to separate. The lovers often accuse the ''guaita'' of dozing, being inattentive or separating them too early. The lovers fear not just the lady's husband but also the ''lauzengiers'', the jealous rival. The following example, composed by an anonymous troubadour, describes the longing of a knight for his lady as they part company after a night of forbidden love. Though generally representative of the style, this particular verse uses an atypical strophic pattern. Acrostic
An acrostic is a poem or other word composition in which the ''first'' letter (or syllable, or word) of each new line (or paragraph, or other recurring feature in the text) spells out a word, message or the alphabet. The term comes from the French from post-classical Latin , from Koine Greek , from Ancient Greek "highest, topmost" and "verse". As a form of constrained writing, an acrostic can be used as a mnemonic device to aid memory retrieval. Conquest Of Majorca
The conquest of the island of Majorca on behalf of the Christian kingdoms was carried out by King James I of Aragon between 1229 and 1231. The pact to carry out the invasion, concluded between James I and the ecclesiastical and secular leaders, was ratified in Tarragona on 28 August 1229. It was open and promised conditions of parity for all who wished to participate.
