Berend Strik
Berend Strik (born 26 April 1960) is a Dutch visual artist working and living in Amsterdam. Biography Berend Strik grew up in Nijmegen, Netherlands. From 1986 until 1988 he studied at the Rijksakademie (Royal Academy of Visual Arts) in Amsterdam. From 1998 until 2000 he followed the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York. In 2001 he was "artist in residence" at Het Vijfde Seizoen (The Fifth Season) in Den Dolder, Netherlands. Strik has been awarded several national and international prizes, including the 1987 Prix de Rome (second prize, sculpture), the 1990 Charlotte Köhler Award and the 1992 Dorothea von Stetten Art Award. The work of Berend Strik has been exhibited extensively, both in solo and group exhibitions. Municipal Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen () is an art museum in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The name of the museum is derived from the two most important collectors of Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans and Daniël George van Beuningen. The TivoliVredenburg is a contemporary music complex located in Utrecht, Netherlands. The venue consists of five halls designed acoustically for a specific music genre. Along with its hall, the venue also features an " amateur stage" and a cafe. History The venue was a part of , an urban redevelopment project for the city of Utrecht. Designer Herman Hertzberger wanted to combine the atmosphere of the Tivoli Oudegracht and Muziekcentrum Vredenburg. Design work began in 2005 with fellow architects Jo Coenen and . Dolly (sheep)
Dolly (5 July 1996 – 14 February 2003) was a female Finnish Dorset sheep and the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell. She was cloned by associates of the Roslin Institute in Scotland, using the process of nuclear transfer from a cell taken from a mammary gland. Her cloning proved that a cloned organism could be produced from a mature cell from a specific body part. Contrary to popular belief, she was not the first animal to be cloned. The employment of adult somatic cells in lieu of embryonic stem cells for cloning emerged from the foundational work of John Gurdon, who cloned African clawed frogs in 1958 with this approach. Paradiso (Amsterdam)
Paradiso is a Dutch music venue and cultural centre located in Amsterdam. History It is housed in a converted former church building that dates from the nineteenth century and that was used until 1965 as the meeting hall for a liberal Dutch religious group known as the "Vrije Gemeente" (Free Congregation). It is located on ''de Weteringschans'', near the ''Leidseplein'', one of the nightlife and tourism centers of the city. The main concert hall in the former church interior has high ceilings and two balcony rings overlooking the stage area, with three large illuminated church windows above the stage. The acoustics are rather echoey, but improvements have been made over the years. In addition to the main concert hall, there are two smaller cafe stages, on an upper floor and in the basement.
