Berdien Stenberg
Berdien Steunenberg, known professionally as Berdien Stenberg (born 30 July 1957) is a Dutch flautist who was active in the 1980s and 90s. Her recordings were have been successful internationally, leading her to obtain more than 25 gold and platinum records and sell several millions of records. She later became active in municipal politics. Biography Musical career After high school, Stenberg followed classical flute training at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Her first single from 1983, "Rondo Russo" (the shortened last movement from the Concerto in E minor by Saverio Mercadante), became number one on the Dutch charts and was successful in other European countries. In the following years, Berdien Stenberg released a number of singles and albums, such as "Ode to Amadeus" and "The Brandenburgs" with Jaap van Zweden, ''Flute Fiesta'' with orchestra leader James Last and ''Amour pour Amour'' with Richard Clayderman. Evangelische Omroep (EO, English: ''Evangelical Broadcasting'') is one of the twelve member-based broadcasting associations contributing to the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. It has as its mission to bring people into contact with Jesus Christ and its statement of faith is a form of Evangelicalism. EO is one of the few broadcasting associations in the '' pillarized'' Dutch broadcasting system to have remained totally faithful to its religious roots. For a long time every one of its programs made reference to God and to the Christian religion, although this is less often the case in the 21st century. ''RTL Boulevard'' is a daily television programme on the Dutch TV channel RTL 4. It was set up as a television equivalent of a tabloid, with a lot of airy subjects, news items and gossip about the stars, fashion and criminality. The programme is renowned for its sarcastic and cynical tone. History From the beginning in 2001, Beau van Erven Dorens was the main presenter. ''Lijstduwer'' (, 'list pusher') is a Dutch term for the last candidate on a party list. In Suriname, the Netherlands and Belgium, this position is often taken by well-known non-politicians such as artists, celebrities and sports people. They are officially a candidate, but they are put at the end of the party list (in an unelectable position) in a bid to attract more votes for the party and as a sign they endorse that specific party. In local elections, ordinary people who are well known in the community might also act as ''lijstduwer''. Since these electoral systems use open list party-list proportional representation, votes cast to the ''lijstduwer'' add up to the total number of votes, and hence seats for the party. The candidate is not likely to become a member of the elected body due to the low placement on the list, and generally rejects the position if they gather enough preference votes for a full seat (which they can claim under the Dutch system).
