Benton Community School Corporation
The Benton Community School Corporation administers the one high school/middle school and two elementary schools in Benton County, Indiana. Its offices are located in the county seat of Fowler, Indiana. The superintendent is Scott Van der aa. The corporation covers more land area (447 sq. miles) than any other single school corporation in the state. History In the fall of 2006, the students of Fowler Elementary School and Oxford Elementary School began attending a new consolidated school named Prairie Crossing located in Oxford. In the fall of 2021 students from the former Boswell Elementary began attending Prairie Crossing as well. Benton County is located in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Indiana, along the border with Illinois. As of 2010, the county's population was 8,854. Benton Central Junior-Senior High School
Benton Central Junior-Senior High School is the only high school in Benton County, Indiana, and is located five miles southeast of Fowler in Atkinson. The school mascot is the Bison. BC was a 1960s consolidation of Ambia, Boswell, Earl Park, Fowler, Freeland Park, Montmorenci, Pine Township, Oxford, Otterbein, and Wadena schools. The number of elementary schools sending students to Benton Central has declined steadily since then, and only two are left. Otterbein Elementary School is one of three public elementary schools in Benton County, Indiana and is located in Otterbein, Indiana. The school mascot is the Red Devil. In 1972 half of the elementary, previously a high school, caught fire and burned down. Otterbein's first class was the class of 1910 and in 2010 Otterbein celebrated 100 years of being open. Activities Otterbein offers a few choices in sports and activities. Boys sports include Basketball and Baseball. Girls sports include Basketball, Softball, & Volleyball. There is also an after school program for students. 6th Grade students are invited to be part of the Otterbein beginning band.
