Carol Rusche Bentel
Carol Rusche Bentel was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Architect and educator, Bentel is partner of architectural firm Bentel & Bentel Architects/Planners AIA and is the BFA Interior Design: Built Environments, School of Visual Arts chair. She holds a BA at Washington University in St. Louis and a M.Arch. at North Carolina State University. Bentel received her PhD in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Modern Architecture at MIT. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Venice (Italy). Bentel was also the national chair on the AIA Committee on Design in 2008 and a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. Dwight Bentel
Dwight Essler Bentel (April 15, 1909 Walla Walla, Washington - May 16, 2012 Saratoga, California) was an American journalist and professor. He has been called "the father of journalism" at San Jose State University. In 1934, he founded the '' Spartan Daily,'' the campus newspaper. In 1936, he founded the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, which has produced six Pulitzer Prize winners and thousands of journalists, and is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation. The school renamed the building that houses the school "Dwight Bentel Hall" in 1982. Subsequently, the on campus advertising agency has been named Dwight, Bentel and Hall Communications. Bentel started as a reporter for the San Jose ''Mercury Herald'', in the lineage of the ''San Jose Mercury News'' in 1928. Maria Bentel
Maria Bentel (July 15, 1928 – November 8, 2000) was an American architect. She is known for her work as a founding partner of the architecture firm Bentel & Bentel Architects/Planners A.I.A. Early life Maria Bentel, née Maria-Luise Ramona Azzarone, was born on June 15, 1928, in New York City to Maria Teresa ( Massaro) and Louis Azzarone, both of Italy. Bentel grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens. She attended Hunter College High School (at the time an all-girls school) and graduated in 1946. She was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed the five-year bachelor of architecture program in 1951 as one of four females in her class. She studied with Alvar Aalto, Ralph Rapson, Pietro Belluschi and Laurence Anderson. After graduation, she received a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship for 1952-1953, which she spent attending the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia.
