Benoit Robichaud is a Canadian politician. He represented the Electoral district (Canada), electoral district of Yarmouth (provincial electoral district), Yarmouth in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1967 to 1970. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia, Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Robichaud is a retired optometrist in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He entered provincial politics in the 1967 Nova Scotia general election, 1967 election, winning the dual-member Yarmouth riding with Progressive Conservative George A. Snow. In the 1970 Nova Scotia general election, 1970 election, Robichaud was defeated when Snow finished 33 votes ahead of him to win the second seat, with Liberal Fraser Mooney winning the first. Yarmouth, Nova Scotia
Yarmouth is a town in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada. A port town, industries include fishing, and tourism. It is the terminus of a ferry service to Bar Harbor, Maine, run by Bay Ferries. History Originally inhabited by the Mi'kmaq, the region was known as "Keespongwitk" meaning "Lands End" due to its position at the tip of the Nova Scotia peninsula. European settlement The region was visited in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain, who named it "Cap-Fourchu", meaning "forked or cloven cape." The first Europeans to make a settlement on these shores were the French Acadians. They set up a small fishing settlement known as "Tebouque" in the mid 1600s and by 1750 the population was 50 people. During the Seven Years' War, New England Planters settled at what is now the town of Yarmouth in 1759; the grantees were from Yarmouth, Massachusetts and they requested that Yarmouth be named after their former home. Yarmouth is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It consists of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth and the town of Yarmouth. From 1867 to 1981, the district included all of Yarmouth County and for most of that time elected two members. Fraser Mooney
Joseph Fraser Mooney (February 24, 1927 – January 5, 2006) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Yarmouth in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1984. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Early life and education Born in 1927 at Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Mooney was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University. Career A pharmacist by career, Mooney owned and operated City Drug Store in downtown Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for over 50 years. Politics Mooney served on Yarmouth town council from 1957 to 1965. He attempted to enter provincial politics in the 1967 election, but was defeated.
