Juniperus Grandis
''Juniperus grandis'', known as Sierra juniper, Sierra western juniper, and western juniper, is a tree or tall shrub that is endemic to the Western United States. It is sometimes considered a variety or subspecies of ''Juniperus occidentalis'', which is also known as western juniper. Description ''Juniperus grandis'' is a medium-sized tree, growing to tall. It has a stout trunk with red-brown bark, growing up to in diameter. The whorled leaves are scale-like and closely appressed. Most plants are dioecious, but about 5–10% are monoecious. Its fleshy and berry-like cones are in diameter. Its pollination period is May and June. The seeds are wingless. Based on dendrochronological evidence from the 2,675-year-old Scofield Juniper, Sierra junipers are the fourth longest-lived tree species after the Great Basin bristlecone pine, alerce and giant sequoia. This is a list of the oldest-known trees, as reported in reliable sources. Definitions of what constitutes an individual tree vary. In addition, tree ages are derived from a variety of sources, including documented "tree-ring" (dendrochronological) count core samples, and from estimates. For these reasons, this article presents three lists of "oldest trees," each using varying criteria. There are three tables of trees, which are listed by age and species. The first table includes trees for which a minimum age has been directly determined, either through counting or cross-referencing tree rings or through radiocarbon dating. Donnell Fire
The Donnell Fire was a wildfire that started on August 1, 2018 due to an unattended illegal campfire, near Donnell Reservoir, burning around California State Route 108 in Tuolumne County, California and in the Stanislaus National Forest. It spread rapidly, and the Forest Service closed a California state highway, many forest service roads, campgrounds, wilderness areas, access to privately-owned inholdings, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The fire burned , and destroyed 54 major structures and 81 minor structures, before the fire burned out on October 1. There were nine injuries caused by the fire, but no deaths. Among the destroyed buildings were those of the historic Dardanelle Resort and the 1933 Dardanelle Bridge a unique bridge listed on the Historic American Engineering Record. Obsidian () is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when lava extrusive rock, extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth. It is an igneous rock. The National Register of Champion Trees is a list of the largest tree specimens found in the United States as reported to American Forests by the public. A tree on this list is called a National Champion Tree. The National Register of Champion Trees has been maintained since 1940 by American Forests.
