Bennet Van Syckel

Van Syckel was born on April 17, 1830, in Bethlehem Township, New Jersey, the son of Aaron Van Syckel and Mary ( Bird). He graduated Princeton University in 1846 and was the oldest living member of his class when he died. He was admitted to bar and in 1851 began his practice in Flemington. He served as Justice of Supreme Court of the New Jersey from 1869 to 1904. He died December 19, 1921 and was interred at Riverview Cemetery in Trenton, where he resided. See also ... New Jersey Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of New Jersey is the highest court in the U.S. state of New Jersey. In its current form, the Supreme Court of New Jersey is the final judicial authority on all cases in the state court system, including cases challenging the validity of state laws under the state constitution. Riverview Cemetery (Trenton, New Jersey)
Riverview Cemetery is a cemetery in the eastern United States, located in Trenton, New Jersey. A number of notables are interred there, including Civil War Union Army Major General and New Jersey Governor George B. McClellan, whose grave is marked by the tallest monument in the cemetery. His wife, Mary Ellen Marcy McClellan, is interred with him. History Riverview Cemetery dates back to a Quaker graveyard used in the 1670s overlooking the Delaware River. The cemetery was established in 1699, and was incorporated in 1858 by an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature. It still serves the community today as an active cemetery, with an office and full-time staff. It was expanded and formally landscaped in the 19th century, becoming the burial site of many prominent Trentonians of the era. Prior to 1947, the structure of the judiciary in New Jersey was extremely complex, including Court of Errors and Appeals in the last resort in all causes. The Court of Errors and Appeals was the highest court in the U.S. state of New Jersey from the enactment of the state's 1844 constitution until the enactment of the state's 1947 constitution.
