Benjamin Wistar Morris (colonist)
Benjamin Wistar Morris (sometimes spelled "Wister"; 1762–1825) was the founder of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Samuel Wells Morris, Morris' son, was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. His grandson was Episcopal bishop Benjamin Wistar Morris, II, and his great grandson was Benjamin Wistar Morris, III, a noted architect. Morris was the son of Captain Samuel and Rebecca ( Wistar) Morris. Benjamin Morris, an agent of the Pine Creek Land Company, settled in Tioga County, Pennsylvania about 1805 with his wife Mary Wells Morris. Wellsboro may have been named in honor of Mary or a member of Mary's family. William Wells, Mary's brother, was a leader of the land company for whom Benjamin worked. Benjamin Wistar Morris (sometimes II; May 30, 1819 – April 7, 1906) was the second bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, which at the time incorporated the present-day episcopal dioceses of Olympia, Spokane, and Eastern Oregon. Background A descendant of Anthony Morris, one of the first colonists in Pennsylvania, Morris was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, which had been founded by his grandfather and namesake, the first Benjamin Wistar Morris. His father was Samuel Wells Morris, a district court judge and member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Morris graduated from General Theological Seminary in New York City in 1846, was ordained to the diaconate and subsequently to the priesthood on April 27, 1847. Benjamin Wistar Morris (sometimes III or Jr.; October 23, 1870 – December 4, 1944) was an American architect from Oregon who worked primarily in New York City. Early life and education Morris was born in Portland, Oregon on October 23, 1870, to Benjamin Wistar Morris, Episcopal Bishop of Oregon and Washington, and his wife Hannah. He attended the Bishop Scott Academy in Oregon, and then St. Paul's Preparatory School in Concord, New Hampshire. Intending to become a minister, he attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, but he later decided to become an architect and graduated from Columbia University in 1894. In 1895 and 1896 he continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Upon his return to the United States, Morris joined the firm of Carrère and Hastings, where he assisted in preparing the successful entry for the design of the New York Public Library. Benny Morris ( he, בני מוריס; born 8 December 1948) is an Israeli historian. He was a professor of history in the Middle East Studies department of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in the city of Beersheba, Israel. He is a member of the group of Israeli historians known as the "New Historians," a term Morris coined to describe himself and historians Avi Shlaim, Ilan Pappé and Simha Flapan. Benjamin James Morris (born 6 July 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Detroit City in the USL Championship. Club career Ipswich Town Morris became a schoolboy player with Town during the 2013–14 season and a full academy player in June 2015, signing a two-year scholarship, before he signed a two-year pro deal on his 17th birthday. After playing regularly for the Town Under-23s, he featured on the bench for the first team, before joining National League side Woking on a youth loan in March 2017, making one appearance for the Surrey-based side. He made his senior Ipswich debut as a second-half substitute in an EFL Cup match at Crystal Palace on 22 August 2017, getting an assist for Ipswich's goal in a 2–1 defeat.
