Benjamin May-Lewis House
Benjamin May-Lewis House is a historic home located near Farmville, Pitt County, North Carolina. It was built in the 1830s, as a two-story, three bay, single pile, Federal style frame dwelling with a rear shed wing. It was remodeled in the 1850s with Greek Revival style design elements. Also on the property are the contributing smokehouse and other farm related outbuildings. Greek Revival Architecture
The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency.
