Benjamin Lucas () was an English soldier of the seventeenth century who served and settled in Ireland. Lucas served as a colonel during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland and was present at the Siege of Drogheda. Career Educated at Robertson State School, then St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace Lucas is a former Australian schoolboy representative. Lucas caught the eye of then Australian coach John Connolly when he claimed a personal tally of 35 points in the Brisbane club competition final where his club Sunnybank beat the Gold Coast by 85–19, Lucas creating nearly every play from Fly Half. Lucas missed out on 2007 Rugby World Cup selection after inside back Berrick Barnes secured the last spot, but was invited to train with the Queensland Reds in preparation for the 2008 Super 14 season. Benjamin Robert Lucas (born 1965) is a New Zealand sports administrator and retired wheelchair racer. He has represented his country at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, and the 1996 and 2000 Summer Paralympics. He was chef de mission for the New Zealand 2016 Summer Paralympics team. Wheelchair racing Lucas grew up in Blenheim, New Zealand. He was very active as a teenager and pursued many outdoor activities. In 1989 aged 24, he crashed his motorbike into a u-turning van and broke his L3 lumbar vertebrae which left him paralysed. At the time, he had been studying towards a New Zealand Certificate in Science. His first wheelchair race was the 1990 Blenheim- Woodbourne half-marathon. In 1991, he competed at a race in Japan. He was nominated for the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona with less than a year of racing history, but he ended up not going.
