Benjamin James Pearsall
Benjamin James Pearsall (1 December 1878 – 18 January 1951) was an Australian politician. He was born in Rokeby, Tasmania, then known as Clarence Plains. In 1928 he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as an Independent member for Franklin. He was defeated in 1931 but re-elected in 1934, being defeated for a second time in 1937. Rokeby is a suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia on the eastern shore of the Derwent River (Tasmania), Derwent River. It is part of the City of Clarence Local government in Australia, local government area. Tasmanian House Of Assembly
The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system. Division Of Franklin (state)
The electoral division of Franklin is one of the five electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly, located in southern Tasmania and includes Bruny Island, Kingston and the eastern shore of the Derwent River. Franklin is named after Sir John Franklin, the Arctic explorer who was Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen's Land (1837–43). The division shares its name and boundaries with the federal division of Franklin. Thomas Gordon Pearsall (11 April 1920 – 28 December 2003) was an Australian politician. Born in Hobart, Tasmania, he was educated at multiple state schools before becoming a dairy farmer at Kingston. He served in the military from 1940 to 1945 (TX6060 Lt 2/29 Infantry Battalion. POW Malaya and Thai-Burma Railway and served on Kingsborough Council. In 1950, he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly as a Liberal member for Franklin. In 1966, he transferred to national politics, winning the federal House of Representatives seat of Franklin after the retirement of Bill Falkinder. Geoff Pearsall
Geoffrey Alan "Geoff" Pearsall (born 15 September 1946) is a former Australian politician. A member of the Liberal Party, he served as a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 1969 until 1988 and as Leader of the Opposition (1979–1981). Robin Gray succeeded him in the latter role. Early life Pearsall was born in Hobart, Tasmania, to Thomas Pearsall, who had been one of the seven members for Division of Franklin from 1950 to 1966, and served one term as a Federal MP for the same electorate in the House of Representatives. Pearsall's grandfather, Benjamin Pearsall, had also held a Franklin seat for two non-contiguous terms during the Great Depression.
