Benjamin Collings
Benjamin Collings (born 1976) is an American politician from Maine. Collings, a Maine Democratic Party, Democrat was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives (District 42) in 2016. A political and business consultant, Collings has worked on various campaigns including most notably as the state director for Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign, Bernie Sanders in 2016. He successfully sponsored a bill to rename Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous Peoples' Day (United States), Indigenous Peoples' Day. Collings grew up in Fort Kent, Maine and earned a social science degree from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. In June of 2023 Collings offered an amendment to a Democrat led bill to expand abortion rights in Maine that would limit the legality of post-viability abortions for reasons of lethal fetal anomalies and to protect the mother’s health. Maine House Of Representatives
The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well. Fort Kent is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States, situated at the confluence of the Fish River and the Saint John River, on the border with New Brunswick, Canada. The population was 4,067 in the 2020 census. Fort Kent is home to an Olympic biathlete training center, an annual CAN-AM dogsled race, and the Fort Kent Blockhouse, built in reaction to the Aroostook War and in modern times designated a national historic site.
