Benjamin Brooks (politician)
Benjamin Thomas Brooks Sr. (born April 23, 1950) is an American politician who has served as a member of the Maryland Senate for District 10, based in Baltimore County, since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously represented the district in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2015 to 2023. Early life and education Benjamin Thomas Brooks Sr. was born in Sumter, South Carolina on April 23, 1950. He graduated from Ebenezer High School. After graduating, Brooks served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, where he worked as a telephone repairman and earned the Accommodations Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal, and afterwards attended South Carolina State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1976. Maryland's Legislative District 10 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Baltimore County. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 122,424, of whom 95,144 (77.7%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 30,566 (25.0%) White, 73,788 (60.3%) African American, 419 (0.3%) Native American, 5,694 (4.7%) Asian, 30 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 5,023 (4.1%) from some other race, and 6,897 (5.6%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8,634 (7.1%) of the population. The 2016 Democratic National Convention was a presidential nominating convention, held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from July 25 to 28, 2016. Legislative Black Caucus Of Maryland
The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, Inc. (also known as The Maryland Legislative Black Caucus) is an American political organization composed of African Americans elected to the Maryland General Assembly. Incorporated in 1970, the Caucus membership has grown from 17 to 58 and is one of the largest state legislative black caucuses in the country. States Newsroom is a U.S. tax-exempt organization that serves as an umbrella organization for state-focused news outlets with progressive editorial outlooks. Launched in 2019, it began as a sponsored project of the Hopewell Fund, a left-leaning nonprofit that does not disclose its donors. Nancy Kopp
Nancy K. Kopp (born December 7, 1943) is an American politician who previously served as the Treasurer of Maryland from 2002 to 2021. A Democrat, she was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the 16th legislative district in Montgomery County, from 1975 to 2002.
