Benjamin's Park
Benjamin's Park is a sporting venue in Portsmouth, Dominica, located away from the capital, Roseau. The venue's primary use is as a cricket ground, and it has held home matches for the Windward Islands, as well as several matches in regional tournaments. History What is now Benjamin's Park was originally designed as Portsmouth's main public square, according to the 1765 town plan laid out by a Royal Engineer. During the 1980s, the park was the proposed site for a "multi-purpose community complex", financed entirely by the People's Republic of China. However, the Dominican government never agreed to the project. In January 2007, the ground hosted two home fixtures for the Windward Islands against Barbados, a four-day Carib Beer Cup match followed by a one-day KFC Cup match. The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup was the ninth Cricket World Cup, a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament that took place in the West Indies from 13 March to 28 April 2007. Cricket Grounds In Dominica
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Deighton Calvin Butler (born 14 July 1974) is a West Indies international cricket player and umpire who played five One-day International matches and one Twenty20 international in 2005 and 2006. Butler has played for Windward Islands from 2000 to 2010 and was primarily a left-arm fast-medium swing bowler. He first played for West Indies in the Indian Oil Cup competition in Sri Lanka in 2005, taking three wickets in three matches. Pedro Tyrone Collins (born 12 August 1976) is a cricket coach and former cricketer who played as a fast bowler for the West Indies. Collins also featured for Barbados, Surrey and Middlesex in his cricketing career. International career As a left-handed seam bowler, Collins shot to fame after getting Sachin Tendulkar out three times and twice for a duck during the 2001-02 India vs West Indies Test series. Dale Maurice Richards (born 16 July 1976) is a West Indian international cricketer who plays first class cricket for Barbados. A right-handed batsman, Richards debuted in 1999/2000. His highest first class score of 159 was made against Jamaica in the Carib Beer Series of 2006/07.
