Bull Benini
Alcide Sylvio "Bull" Benini (15 October 1921 – 16 April 2015) was a United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. He survived the Bataan Death March during World War II while serving with the United States Army. Post war, he was a "founding father" of the United States Air Force Combat Control Teams, serving until 1970. He was known to comrades and friends as "Bull" because of his experiences, especially survival of the Bataan Death March and subsequent imprisonment. Early life Born 15 October 1921 in Cologna-Gavazzo, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, to Luigi Benini and Elvira Zanoni, in 1930 he migrated to the United States arriving aboard the SS ''Conte Grande'', at Ellis Island. He later joined his father who was a coal miner in Pennsylvania. When Benini was 13 his father died of blacklung disease and he became the family's sole provider. Clarice Benini
Clarice Benini (8 January 1905 – 6 September 1976) was an Italian chess player. She was awarded the title International Woman Master by FIDE in 1950. Benini was born in Florence. In 1936, she finished second, behind Sonja Graf, in Semmering, Austria. The next year, Benini also came second in the Women's World Championship at Stockholm, behind Vera Menchik and ahead of Sonja Graf, Milda Lauberte, Mary Bain, Mona May Karff, and others. She was the twice Italian women's champion, winning at Milan 1938 and Rome 1939. Benini took ninth place in the 1949/50 Women's World Championship in Moscow, which was won by Ludmila Rudenko. Zenone Benini (Campiglia Marittima, 19 October 1902 – Florence, 10 September 1976) was an Italian industrialist and Fascist politician who served as the last minister of public works of the Mussolini Cabinet. Biography Benini was born into a rich family of the Florentine bourgeoisie which owned a villa in the countryside, a straw hat factory and a metallurgical factory, the Pignone, located in Florence. He spent his early years in Florence but attended high school in Livorno, where he met Galeazzo Ciano, with whom he developed a lifelong friendship.
